About the School

The Maromboso English Medium School is a primary school located in Arusha, Tanzania.  Headmaster Msagati oversees the 12 active teachers who give instruction to approximately 300 students, ages 5 to 14.  Yearly tuition is ~$300 per student which may sound like a bargain until you consider the average annual income of a Tanzanian is $440.

At the school, all classes are taught in English to encourage maximum learning and preparation for secondary school.  After completing the "standard seven" at Tanzanian primary school, students are required to pass an examination to gain admission into secondary school.  The Tanzanian education system only requires seven years of school per child so a position in secondary school is based on the examination grade.

Some students, due to family problems, live full time at the school.  Right now, 20 students living at the dormitories.  The staff and faculty look after these students to ensure they are getting the proper care and attention.
