The Background:
Throughout the week, the Maromboso facility offers primary-level education to more than 300 students, ages 5-14. In addition, Compassion International operates a Saturday School program for over 200 students each weekend. Headmaster Msagati oversees both school programs and the 12 active teachers, adhering as closely as possible to the curriculum established by the Tanzanian government.
The Need:
While the needs of these children are many, there is one that we can remedy quite quickly: absence of a school library. In fact, not only do the children miss out on having access to spare reading books or textbooks, the teachers only have a handful of books from which to teach.
The Partnership:
Your partnership is appreciated in the following ways – books and/or financial support.
Books – We ask that you please consider a gift of at least 10 new or slightly-worn reading books that meet the Book Donation Specifications. We appreciate your generosity and are happy to transport the books to the Maromboso School in Arusha. Send books by December 1 to:
Leigh Shepherd
6613 Crown Drive
Brownsburg, IN 46112
Financial Donations – Alternatively, we ask that you please consider a gift of $30, $60 or $100 to help the library project at the Maromboso School. 100% of cash donations received will be used to purchase children’s books/textbooks in Tanzania or to cover shipping costs of donated books. By purchasing books in Tanzania, we not only eliminate the cost of transportation, but the funds help boost the local economy. You can donate money safely through PayPal.
Maromboso Contribution – True partnership seeks to empower all parties and encourage ownership over the resources and their care. The Maromboso School is responsible for the creation of a library space and bookshelves and the designation of a school librarian to steward the library. Partnerships like these have proven the most successful way to ensure long-term project success.
The Impact:
Your contribution can help bring ordinary books, essential to the education and the development of these young students, to the hands of children who never had such a luxury. By joining with us and donating to the Library Project, we all participate in sharing the opportunity of education and knowledge, an opportunity sadly unavailable to many Tanzanian students.
What’s more, the collective efforts help show these children and teachers that the global community cares about their education and about their future. There exists an immeasurable impact of not only empowering young students through a lasting education, but also in sending the message of hope with every book and every dollar.
Thank you for your time and attention. We look forward to partnering with you to help bring a library to the Maromboso English Medium School. While we encourage your participation in the project at whatever time would allow, we do appreciate in-kind book donations by December 1, 2010.
