Note from Drew

Friends and Family,

Thanks for coming to the Maromboso Library Project site to learn more.

On my first visit to Maromboso, a school teacher asked me, "Do schools in the US have libraries?".  I gave some thought to this and let him know that, "Yes, I think all schools have libraries."   Unfortunately, this isn't the reality in Tanzania and the Maromboso School doesn’t even own a humble collection of books to call a mini-library.  The students have no books to use, and the teachers only have a few.

Of course, what I didn't have the heart to tell him was that, "Yes, Bradford Woods Elementary (the school I attended) has a library with 20,000 items, a dedicated librarian, fully networked computer lab, book exchanges, a computerized card catalog, and a designated story reading area.  More mind boggling was considering how to broach the subject that my elementary school actually owned a log cabin "for fun".

Put simply:  The Maromboso English Medium School in Arusha, Tanzania needs a library.  Many people have asked how they can help with situations here in Africa.  This is it.  You can get help by getting involved in this project.

I hope that you can help create a library for the 300 students at Maromboso so that maybe next year, we can start building log cabins.

All the best,
Drew
